On February 14, 2025, our Charlotte team completed a manual transfer switch (interlock) and 50-amp generator inlet installation for homeowner Jacob Box in Charlotte, NC. Lead technician Danny Bishop handled the project from our Charlotte branch, delivering a safe, code-compliant setup that prepares the home for outages while adding a dedicated circuit for a tankless water heater.
This project aligned with our Whole-Home Generators and Manual Transfer Switch services and focused on safe generator integration, clear labeling for ease of use, and weather-resistant exterior power.
What we installed
- 50A generator inlet mounted at the back of the home near the meter location, supplied by up to 15 feet of feeder from the main panel. We also provided a 15-foot generator whip for quick connections during outages.
- Manual transfer solution (interlock kit) installed on the face of the panel to mechanically prevent the utility and generator breakers from being on at the same time. We reconfigured the panel so the generator breaker and the backed-up circuits are positioned at the top left for clear operation.
- Panel labeling and sticker coding to guide the homeowner on which breakers to flip and in what order during a power outage.
- Dedicated circuit for the tankless water heater to ensure reliable operation without overloading existing circuits.
- New GFCI receptacle with bubble cover for weatherproof protection whether the outlet is in use or not.
- 15A standard breaker added for bathroom lights and standard branch circuits in line with 2020 code requirements.
- Neat wiring and splicing using approximately 75 feet of 14/2 NM-B as needed with junction boxes to maintain accessibility and code compliance.
