Project overview
On July 7, 2026, Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a comprehensive main electrical panel upgrade for Timber Ridge Apartments in Charlotte, NC. The scope included replacing the indoor service panel, installing new code-compliant breakers, coordinating permits and inspections, and adding a 200A indoor subpanel to support present and future electrical demand.
Technicians: Anthony Vazquez and Mark Alaev
Scope of work completed
- Main indoor panel upgrade: Supplied and installed a new indoor distribution panel, set up for safe, reliable operation and code compliance.
- New code-compliant breakers: Installed a balanced mix of standard and GFCI protection to match circuit needs and current code requirements.
- 200A indoor subpanel: Installed a 200-amp subpanel to expand capacity and improve circuit organization; permitting was coordinated as part of this work.
- Permits and inspections: Handled permitting and inspection scheduling to ensure the project met current standards in Charlotte.

- 1 × 60A Standard breaker — suitable for range, heater/furnace, small subpanel, or EV charger
- 1 × 25A Standard double-pole breaker — for a small condenser, well pump, or small mini-split
- 1 × 30A Standard double-pole breaker — for dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger
- 1 × 20A GFCI breaker — for receptacles in bathrooms, dining room, laundry, garage, exterior, crawl spaces, or basements

Code compliance and what to expect
This project was completed to current electrical code standards. As Charlotte inspectors continue to implement 2020 NEC requirements, certain branch circuits may need AFCI protection. Adding AFCI protection can reveal preexisting wiring conditions (such as shared neutrals) that may cause immediate tripping. When that happens, additional diagnostic work may be required to locate and correct the issue before finalizing the upgrade.
