Project overview
Our Raleigh branch completed a Panels & Service Upgrades project in Cary, NC for homeowner Jesse Lund. On April 15, 2026, lead technician Brad Williams replaced the home’s 200A main electrical panel and installed whole-home surge protection. The work was permitted and inspected, and our Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty was included for added peace of mind.

Scope of work
- Permit and inspection: Pulled the required permit and coordinated inspection for code compliance.
- Main electrical panel replacement (200A): Installed an indoor main panel with an aluminum bus bar and a 20-year transferable panel warranty. The panel was brought to current electrical code, with grounding and bonding completed. We replaced the main lug, reconnected the service entrance cable, reconnected existing circuits, and labeled all circuits for clarity and safety.
- Whole-home surge protection: Installed a system that includes $10,000 of connected equipment coverage for 3 years, designed to safeguard appliances, HVAC equipment, and electronics against damaging voltage spikes.
Breaker upgrades installed
- 1 × 40A standard breaker: Commonly used for larger loads such as a dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger.
- 4 × 30A double-pole standard breakers: Suited for 240V equipment like water heaters, air condensers, spas, or EV chargers.
- 3 × 20A standard breakers: Typically used for small appliances and general-purpose circuits.
- 1 × 15A standard breaker: For lighting and standard branch circuits, including bathroom lighting per 2020 code.
All breakers were selected to match the connected loads and were clearly labeled to make future service simpler for the homeowner.
Code and safety details
As local inspectors adopt NEC 2020 provisions, some homes may require upgrades such as AFCI protection on certain circuits. In older wiring systems, conditions like shared neutrals can cause immediate tripping when AFCI devices are introduced, sometimes requiring additional diagnostic work to locate and correct the issue. For this Cary project, we ensured the new panel was grounded, bonded, and labeled to current standards, positioning the home for smooth inspections and future expansions.
