Reliable Main Breaker Replacement and Grounding in Oxford, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed a safety-focused upgrade for Ground Works - Raleigh in Oxford, NC. On March 13, 2026, technician Jared Mata installed a new main breaker, added ground rods, and bonded the building’s metal water piping to the electrical grounding system. This project enhances fault protection, reduces shock risk, and supports current electrical code requirements for a safer, more resilient service panel.
What We Upgraded
- Main breaker installation: We installed a two-pole main breaker that matches the electrical panel’s amperage capacity. The main breaker limits incoming current and provides a central shutoff for emergency and maintenance needs, protecting every circuit the panel feeds.
- Ground rods and grounding electrode conductor (GEC): New ground rods were driven to typical depth (about 8 feet), then bonded using listed clamps. We routed the grounding electrode conductor back to the main service panel and secured all terminations for a low-impedance path that helps safely carry fault current to ground. Our standard installation covers up to a 25-foot GEC run.
- Water pipe bonding: We bonded the metal water piping (hot and cold) to the grounding system using a code-compliant copper conductor and UL-listed bonding clamps. This helps prevent shock hazards if pipes ever become energized and supports National Electrical Code compliance (NEC 250.104). Materials for a standard installation include up to 50 feet of #6 AWG copper and two UL-listed pipe clamps within 50 feet of the main panel.
