Completed Pool Bonding and Grounding in Maggie Valley

Touchstone Electric’s Asheville team, operating from our Hendersonville branch, completed a specialty pool bonding and grounding service in Maggie Valley on May 20, 2025. The project was performed for Signature Luxury Pools to ensure safer swimming and reliable power for the new pool equipment setup.

Led by technician Chris Rogers, our crew established a #8 bare copper bonding system and grounded all associated pool equipment to meet NEC 680.26 requirements for equipotential bonding around pools.

Scope of Work

  • Installed #8 bare copper bonding halo: Created an equipotential bonding loop encircling the pool area as required by NEC 680.26.
  • Connected to equipment bonding/ground lug: Bonded the copper halo to the designated ground/bonding lug on pool equipment.
  • Bonded and grounded all pool equipment: Ensured pumps, heaters, metal components, and related equipment were properly tied into the bonding system for a continuous, low-impedance path.
  • Code-focused workmanship: All work aligned with NEC 680.26 guidelines for pool bonding and grounding.

This installation helps minimize stray voltage differences, supporting a safer environment for swimmers and anyone in contact with nearby metallic parts.

Why Pool Bonding and Grounding Matter

Bonding links all conductive parts—such as metal fixtures and equipment—so they share the same electrical potential, while grounding provides a path for fault current. Together, they help reduce touch-voltage risk and support the proper operation of protective devices.

  • Safety: Helps protect swimmers and technicians by reducing voltage differences around the pool.
  • Compliance: Aligns your pool installation with NEC 680.26 equipotential bonding requirements.
  • Reliability: Supports consistent performance of pool pumps, heaters, and associated equipment.

Signs Your Pool May Need a Bonding/Grounding Check

  • You are installing or upgrading pool equipment (pump, heater, automation, lighting).
  • Visible metal parts around the pool are not clearly bonded together.
  • You experience shocks, tingling, or unusual sensations when touching metallic items near the pool.
  • Past renovations or DIY changes may have altered the original bonding path.

If any of these apply, a professional assessment can verify continuity and code alignment for peace of mind.
