Project overview
Touchstone Electric completed a Lighting & Ceiling Fans project on May 10, 2024, for homeowner Gena Decotiis in Denver, NC. Led by technician Ben Lively from our Charlotte team in Matthews, this job focused on Lighting Installation upgrades that improved both illumination and everyday convenience throughout the home.
Our crew installed two customer-supplied light fixtures, added three new outlets for better access to power, and made targeted electrical panel and wiring improvements to ensure dependable, code-conscious performance.
Scope of work completed
- 2x Fixture Install (Medium: Pendants/Ceiling/Chandelier) — Installed customer-supplied fixtures on existing boxes/circuits for a clean, finished look.
- 3x Standard Receptacles — Added new outlets with matching covers to improve access to everyday power needs.
- 20 ft NM-B Romex 12/2 — Routed 12/2 cable where a 20-amp circuit is appropriate for higher-demand receptacles and appliances.
- 1x 20A Tandem Breaker — Installed a 20-amp tandem breaker to maximize panel space while delivering safe, reliable capacity.
- 20 ft NM-B Romex 14/2 — Ran 14/2 cable for general-purpose outlets and lighting where a 15-amp circuit is suitable.
This combination of fixture installations, outlet additions, new wiring, and panel work delivered a balanced upgrade that supports both lighting aesthetics and practical power access throughout the property.
How we approached the installation
For the two customer-supplied fixtures, our team carefully mounted each unit on the existing electrical box and verified secure support and proper connections. Pendant and ceiling fixture installs demand attention to weight rating, box integrity, and conductor terminations, all of which were verified before energizing.
We strategically placed the three new standard outlets to add convenience and reduce the need for extension cords. When routing new cable, we used NM-B 12/2 where 20-amp capacity is preferred and NM-B 14/2 where a 15-amp circuit is appropriate for lighting and general-purpose receptacles. This ensures the wiring type and breaker sizing are aligned for dependable performance.
The 20A tandem breaker provided a space-efficient way to supply the needed circuit capacity while maintaining organized panel layout. All connections were torqued to manufacturer specifications and labeled for clarity.
Benefits for the homeowner
- Better lighting — New fixtures brighten key areas and enhance the home’s style.
- More convenient power — Added outlets reduce clutter from power strips and make charging and appliance use simpler.
- Right-sized circuits — Thoughtful use of 12/2 and 14/2 NM-B helps ensure circuits are matched to their loads.
- Panel optimization — A tandem breaker expands capability when panel space is limited.
The result is a safer, more functional setup that supports daily living and looks great.
