Project overview: Lighting installation and dimmer upgrades in Lake Lure, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Hendersonville branch, part of our Asheville service team, recently completed a comprehensive lighting upgrade for Ember House Holdings LLC in Lake Lure, NC. Completed on July 18, 2025, this project focused on flexible lighting control, clean TV wiring, and future-proof power and lighting options to support the homeowner’s plans.
Our licensed electrician, Aaron Smith, delivered a neat, code-conscious installation designed to enhance comfort, highlight artwork, and keep walls clutter-free.
Scope of work completed
- 15 dimmer installations across living areas, bedrooms, and hallways to tailor light levels for tasks, ambiance, and energy savings.
- Pre-wire for a future floor outlet in the living room (no device installed yet), maintaining a clean floor finish until the outlet is ready to be added.
- Two recessed TV boxes installed in the primary suite and a secondary bedroom for low-profile, concealed AV cabling and a cleaner wall appearance.
- Pre-wire for an art light in the hallway to support future accent lighting and display needs.
- Two wafer can lights installed to add low-profile, efficient overhead lighting where ceiling space is limited.
- 20A AFCI breaker added to provide arc-fault protection for general-use receptacle circuits serving areas like the dining room, hallway/foyer, and kitchen receptacles not near sinks or countertops.
- Wire fishing through finished walls and ceilings to minimize patching and preserve finishes.
To support these upgrades, our team installed new cabling where needed, including approximately 65 feet of NM-B 14/2 for 15-amp lighting and 40 feet of NM-B 12/2 for 20-amp receptacle circuits.
Why these upgrades make a difference
- Dimmers help set the mood, reduce glare, and extend lamp life while trimming energy use when lights are lowered.
- Recessed TV boxes keep cords and connections hidden, allowing TVs to sit closer to the wall for a clean, modern look.
- Pre-wiring for the art light and living room floor outlet protects finishes now and makes future additions faster, cleaner, and more affordable.
- Wafer can lights deliver bright, even illumination in tight spaces without bulky housings.
- AFCI protection adds an important layer of safety by monitoring for arcing conditions that could lead to overheating.
Safety and code considerations
Arc-fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) breakers are designed to improve safety in living areas. When added to existing homes, they can sometimes reveal preexisting wiring issues—such as shared neutrals or damaged conductors—that may cause immediate tripping. If a shared neutral or similar issue is present, resolving it can require tracing and separating conductors across the affected lighting or receptacle circuits. Our team is equipped to diagnose and correct these conditions to help ensure reliable operation.

Planning for future upgrades
This project was designed with flexibility in mind. By pre-wiring for the hallway art light and the living room floor outlet, the property is ready for quick add-ons without opening finished walls. When you are ready to complete those additions, our team can return to install fixtures or devices on the prepared circuits.
