Tesla Wall Connector Level 2 Installation in Charlotte, NC
On January 6, 2025, Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team (based out of our Matthews branch) completed a Level 2 Tesla Wall Connector installation for homeowner Bryan West in Charlotte, NC. Lead technician Viktor Opalko managed the project from start to finish, delivering a clean, code-compliant setup that’s ready for fast, reliable charging in the garage.
This project was fully permitted, professionally wired, and tested to verify proper operation—so the homeowner can plug in with confidence.
Scope of Work
- Electrical permit filed: We obtained and filed the required electrical permit with the county for this installation.
- Dedicated 60A circuit: Installed a new 60-amp breaker to supply the Tesla Wall Connector’s Level 2 charging requirements.
- Correct gauge wiring: Ran approximately 15 feet of 6-gauge SEU (3-wire) to deliver safe, consistent power to the charger location.
- Tesla Wall Connector setup: Mounted and connected the customer-supplied Wall Connector in the garage per manufacturer specifications and local code.
- Standard receptacle added: Installed a standard outlet with cover as part of the scope (on an existing circuit, as specified).
- Fixture installation: Installed a customer-supplied light/fixture on an existing box and circuit in the garage.
After installation, we performed functional tests to confirm proper charging operation and breaker performance, ensuring the system is ready for dependable daily use.
Code Compliance and Safety
Level 2 EV charging requires the right circuit sizing, conductor type, and overcurrent protection. Our team ensured the new 60A circuit, 6-gauge SEU wiring, and connections were installed to current code standards for a safe, long-lasting setup.
Permitting note: This project included only the electrical permit. If a jurisdiction requires additional non-electrical permits (such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, or separate subcontractor/building permits), those are not included and may be handled separately.
