Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh team completed a safe, code-conscious relocation of a Level 2 EV charging receptacle for homeowner Toni Whitaker in Apex, NC. Led by technician Brad Williams and completed on August 27, 2025, this project repositioned the charging point to the left of the electrical panel and upgraded the wiring pathway to support reliable Level 2 charging.
Project overview
The homeowner wanted the EV charging receptacle moved for better access and cleaner cord management. Our crew relocated the receptacle to the left of the panel, pulled new 6/3 conductors for a 50-amp, 240-volt circuit, and installed 3/4-inch EMT conduit to provide a robust, tidy pathway where surface raceway was the right fit. The scope focused on a single-visit connection for the customer-supplied EV charging equipment.
- Relocation: Moved the Level 2 EV charging receptacle to the left side of the existing electrical panel for a more convenient parking and plug-in position.
- New wiring: Pulled approximately 20 feet of 6/3 NM-B copper cable suitable for a 50-amp, 240V EV charging circuit.
- Conduit installation: Installed about 10 feet of 3/4-inch EMT conduit with secure mounting and appropriate fittings for a clean, durable run.
- Appliance connection: Connected the customer-supplied Level 2 charging equipment via receptacle/hardwire per the project scope.
- Scope note: This visit did not include a new breaker, disconnect, feeder, or permit.
The result is a safer, more convenient charging location with a neatly routed pathway and appropriately sized conductors that support Level 2 charging demands.
