Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, based out of our Matthews branch, completed a Level 2 EV charging outlet installation for Duke Energy - Allumia on July 21, 2026. Our licensed electricians — Alex Bishop, Tyquan Johnson, and Danny Bishop — delivered a clean, code-focused install designed for reliable daily charging.

Project overview

The homeowner requested a dedicated 240-volt charging outlet mounted to the right side of the main panel. To place the receptacle exactly where it was wanted, a careful sheetrock opening was required. Our team installed a 50-amp EV charging outlet on a dedicated branch circuit protected by a 40-amp two‑pole breaker, well suited to the customer’s Tesla charging equipment, which is configured for a 30-amp charging level.

This Level 2 setup provides fast, convenient charging at home and was completed with future flexibility and safety in mind, using appropriately sized conductors and clear labeling for the new circuit.

What we installed

50-amp EV charging outlet mounted adjacent to the electrical panel for a short, efficient run.
40-amp breaker added to the service panel to provide dedicated overcurrent protection for the circuit.
Approximately 20 feet of 6/3 NM‑B cable to create a robust 240V branch circuit for Level 2 charging.

Installation configured for Level 2 charging with customer‑supplied equipment, including Tesla chargers set to a 30A limit.
