Level 2 EV Charger Outlet & Whole‑Home Surge Protection in Easley, SC
Our Greenville branch completed a Level 2 EV charging upgrade for homeowner Lisa Lowery in Easley, SC. On July 28, 2025, technician Tyler Harris installed a NEMA 14‑50 Level 2 EV charger outlet with a 50A breaker and new 6/3 NM‑B wiring, then added a $50k whole‑home surge protector at the main electrical panel for enhanced protection.
This project was serviced by our team that regularly supports the Easley community from our Greenville branch and Taylors area location, helping local homeowners charge faster and protect their homes from damaging power spikes.
What We Installed
- NEMA 14‑50 outlet positioned under the main panel for convenient Level 2 charging of most EVs and plug‑in hybrids.
- 50A standard breaker dedicated to the EV charging circuit for reliable, high‑capacity power delivery.
- Approximately 8 ft of 6/3 NM‑B cable to support a 240V, 50‑amp circuit with the correct conductor size for EV charging loads.
- Whole‑home surge protector installed at the main electrical panel to divert excess voltage safely to ground and help protect connected systems and appliances from power surges.
The NEMA 14‑50 receptacle provides a robust Level 2 charging solution that’s widely supported by EV manufacturers and many third‑party EVSEs. Placing the outlet beneath the panel helps minimize cable runs and keeps the installation neat and accessible.
Why This Upgrade Matters
- Faster charging at home compared to standard 120V outlets, so your EV is ready when you are.
- Properly sized circuit using 6/3 conductors and a 50A breaker helps ensure safe, dependable performance.
- Whole‑home surge protection provides a critical first line of defense against voltage spikes from lightning, grid fluctuations, and large appliances cycling on and off.
- Long‑term reliability Reducing routine surge stress can help extend the lifespan of sensitive electronics and major appliances.
How We Completed the Job
Tyler Harris installed the 50A breaker in the main panel, routed and secured the new 6/3 NM‑B cable, and mounted the NEMA 14‑50 receptacle beneath the panel for a tidy, direct connection. He then installed the surge protective device at the main panel so it can intercept transient overvoltage before it reaches branch circuits and equipment. After installation, the EV outlet and surge protector were tested for proper operation.
About the Surge Protector Coverage
The installed device includes a $50,000, 10‑year coverage program against damage to home appliances in the unlikely event of failure. As stated in the program terms, claims are secondary to your existing insurance policy and direct lightning strikes are excluded.
Per the coverage description, “Covered Equipment” can include items such as washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, certain indoor HVAC components, dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove, wiring, outlets/switches, breakers and other electrical system components, as well as hard‑wired devices like built‑in microwaves, furnace, air handlers, evaporator coils, hardwired ranges, and lighting when protected with a properly connected BoltShield SPD. Security systems and medical equipment are not included.
