Level 2 EV Charger Installation with Trenching in Swannanoa, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Asheville team completed a code-compliant Level 2 EV charger installation for a property in Swannanoa, NC. Scope of work in Swannanoa
To keep the installation tidy and well protected, our electricians routed power from the electrical source to the charger location using underground conduit. Utility-locate needs were addressed prior to digging to help protect buried services, and the trench was restored after installation for a clean finish.
- Assessed the electrical system to support a dedicated 240V Level 2 charging circuit.
- Pulled #6 THHN conductors through 1" PVC to achieve the planned 60A capacity.
- Completed approximately 30 ft of trenching to route the conduit to the charging location.
- Set a wood post in concrete to provide a reliable, convenient charger/receptacle mounting point outdoors.
- Mounted and hardwired (or receptacle-connected) the customer-supplied EV charging equipment as appropriate.
- Coordinated inspections and provided documentation for rebate submission through Duke Energy.
Why a 60A Level 2 circuit?
A 60-amp Level 2 circuit offers faster charging compared to lower-amp options, providing more miles of range per hour and reducing overnight charge times. Using #6 THHN conductors ensures capacity for the higher load, while 1" PVC conduit offers durable, weather-resistant protection and room for maintenance or future needs. For outdoor placements, a dedicated post in concrete adds long-term stability and a professional look.
