How We Routed the New 60A Circuit
To deliver a clean, code-compliant installation with minimal disruption, we carefully planned the conduit path from the basement panel to the garage charging location.
- Ran conduit from the panel in the basement to an exterior wall.
- Transitioned up the wall to the attic space and re-entered the home.
- Continued the conduit run toward the garage and dropped down to the charger location.
- Installed a new-work square box to terminate the circuit for the customer’s EVSE (charger) connection.
This approach keeps the wiring protected, organized, and ready for long-term service while preserving a neat appearance around the garage.
Panel Space and Breaker Updates
The existing panel was at capacity. To safely make room for the EV circuit, we:
- Installed two 15-amp tandem breakers to consolidate standard branch circuits and free up space.
- Added a 60-amp double-pole breaker dedicated to the Level 2 charger.
This ensures the EV charger operates on its own properly sized circuit without overloading the existing panel.
Materials and Workmanship
We used durable, code-approved materials to build a dependable charging circuit sized for Level 2 performance:
- Approximately 40 ft of THHN #6 conductors for the 60A feed.
- About 25 ft of 1-inch PVC conduit, complete with fittings, connectors, and support hardware.
- New-work square box at the garage to support the customer’s charger connection.
Every connection and transition was made with careful attention to detail for safety, longevity, and serviceability.
Permitting and Compliance
We filed the electrical permit with the county for this installation and completed the work in accordance with local requirements. Please note: if your project requires non-electrical permits (for example, Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, or general building permits), those are not included. If additional permits are needed, we’ll advise you on next steps and can provide pricing for handling them if requested.
