Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Charlotte — 60A Circuit
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a professional Level 2 EV charger installation for Jonathan Wynn in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos, this project added a dedicated 60-amp circuit to power a customer-supplied EV charger, with clean, code-compliant conduit runs and full permitting. Completed on December 16, 2025, the installation was coordinated through our Matthews branch serving the greater Charlotte area.
Scope of Work
- New 60A breaker: Installed a standard 60-amp breaker in the existing panel after verifying available capacity and proper torqueing per manufacturer specifications.
- THHN conductors in EMT: Pulled approximately 10 ft of #6 THHN conductors through 3/4-inch EMT conduit (about 7 ft), with secure connectors, straps, and LBs for a neat, durable installation.
- EV charger hookup: Connected the homeowner’s Level 2 charger per manufacturer requirements—either receptacle or hardwired configuration—ensuring the dedicated 60A circuit delivers reliable charging performance.
- Labeling and testing: Labeled the new circuit, verified polarity and grounding, and tested charger operation to confirm proper voltage and functionality.
- Electrical permit: Filed the electrical permit with the county and coordinated inspection steps to keep everything compliant and straightforward for the homeowner.
This installation follows current NEC guidelines for EV supply equipment (Article 625), emphasizing safe conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, and professional conduit routing.
