Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Cary, NC

Touchstone Electric completed a Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Cary, NC. Our Raleigh team installed the dedicated electrical equipment needed to support a hardwired EV charger, helping provide a reliable charging setup for an electric vehicle at home or at a managed residential property.

Level 2 charging equipment requires a properly sized circuit, quality wiring, and professional installation practices. For this project, our electricians created a new 60-amp circuit and connected the customer-supplied EV charger using durable materials designed for the application.

Work Completed for the EV Charging Circuit

Our technicians, Joseph Portillo and Francisco Martinez, performed the electrical work needed to prepare and connect the hardwired charger. The completed installation included:

  • Installation of a new 60-amp breaker for the EV charging circuit
  • Hardwiring the customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger
  • Installation of #6 THHN conductors adjacent to the electrical panel
  • Use of liquid-tight flexible conduit for a protected connection to the charger
  • Electrical labor support to complete the installation efficiently
  • Permit-related work for the new EV charger circuit

The installation used approximately 10 feet of #6 THHN wiring and 10 feet of 3/4-inch liquid-tight flex conduit. This combination helps provide a protected pathway for the conductors while creating a clean connection between the panel and the hardwired charging equipment.

Why a Dedicated 60-Amp Circuit Matters

A Level 2 EV charger draws significantly more power than a standard household outlet. Installing a dedicated circuit with an appropriately sized breaker helps ensure the charger has the electrical capacity it needs without sharing power with other household equipment.

Professional EV charger installation also helps confirm that the breaker, wiring method, conduit, and charger connection are coordinated for the specific charging setup. Whether you are upgrading from slower charging or preparing a new home for an electric vehicle, a dedicated Level 2 circuit can make everyday charging more convenient.
