Touchstone Electric recently completed a professional Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Huntersville, NC. Performed by technician Christian Cedillos from our Charlotte team based out of Matthews, this project was finished on January 20, 2025 and included a permitted, code-compliant 50-amp circuit dedicated to EV charging.
What we installed for this Level 2 EV charger
- Dedicated 50A GFCI breaker: A 50-amp GFCI breaker was installed to protect the EV charging circuit and meet current safety standards for garage and vehicle-charging locations.
- THHN #6 copper wiring: Approximately 12 feet of THHN #6 conductors (3–4 strand as appropriate) were pulled for a robust, high-capacity circuit.
- 1-inch EMT conduit: About 12 feet of 1-inch EMT metallic conduit with proper fittings and supports to protect and route conductors cleanly and safely.
- Appliance hookup for the customer-supplied charger: Connection of the EVSE with the appropriate receptacle or hard-wired configuration to manufacturer specifications.
- County electrical permit: We filed the electrical permit and completed the work to pass inspection requirements.
This setup delivers reliable Level 2 charging performance for today’s EVs while providing capacity for many future models.
