Level 2 EV Charger Installation on a Deck in Maggie Valley, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a clean, code-compliant Level 2 EV charger outlet installation for a residential customer in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Performed by technician Aaron Smith and completed on May 13, 2025, this project was handled by our Asheville business unit and supported by our Hendersonville branch to serve the Maggie Valley area.
Project overview
The homeowner needed a reliable 240V charging solution located on their deck to conveniently charge their EV. We installed a dedicated circuit and receptacle to support a customer-supplied Level 2 charger, using robust outdoor-rated methods to stand up to the elements and maintain long-term performance.
What we installed
- Level 2 EV charger receptacle for a customer-supplied charger (plug-in configuration).
- 3/4 in PVC conduit (approximately 36 ft), mounted neatly with the appropriate fittings and connectors for a clean, durable exterior run.
- #6 THHN conductors (approximately 38 ft) sized for a high-demand EV charging circuit.
- 50A GFCI breaker to provide the required ground-fault protection and dedicated overcurrent protection for safe operation.
- Duke permit secured to ensure the installation meets local utility and jurisdictional requirements.
All work was completed to current electrical code and manufacturer guidelines, with careful attention to conductor sizing, proper terminations, and weather-resistant routing along the deck.
Safety, performance, and code compliance
A Level 2 charging setup delivers significantly faster charging than a standard 120V outlet, and doing it right starts with power and protection. The dedicated 50A GFCI breaker, correctly sized #6 THHN conductors, and a continuous 3/4 in PVC conduit run provide a safe, efficient path for the EV load while helping to reduce voltage drop and exposure to the elements. Our team ensured proper labeling, torqueing of terminations, and verification of circuit protection to support dependable day-to-day charging.
Permitting and Duke Energy EV rebate support
Touchstone Electric handled the required Duke permit for this project, streamlining the approval process for the homeowner. We also guided the customer through the Duke Energy EV rebate process. Rebates and eligibility can vary; our team stays up to date so you can take advantage of available incentives and offset a portion of your installation cost.
The result
The finished deck-mounted EV outlet provides convenient, reliable Level 2 charging where the homeowner needs it most. The conduit routing is tidy and secure, the circuit protection is properly matched to the load, and the installation is built for long-term outdoor performance. It’s a practical upgrade that enhances daily EV use without compromising safety or aesthetics.
