Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a professional Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Indian Land, SC on December 23, 2025. Led by technician Chris Rogers, our team added a dedicated 60-amp circuit, installed conduit and conductors to the customer-supplied EV charging unit, and pulled the required electrical permit—making the project rebate-ready for Duke Energy’s EV program.

What We Installed
This Level 2 EV charging project was built to support high-demand residential charging with a dedicated 60-amp branch circuit and professional-grade materials:
- Eaton CH 60A breaker installed at the service panel for a dedicated EV circuit
- #6 stranded THHN copper conductors (approx. 25 ft) for ampacity and performance
- 3/4" EMT conduit (approx. 25 ft) with proper fittings and supports for a durable, neat run
- Major appliance connection to the customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger
- Electrical permit obtained to meet local code requirements
- Work completed by our lead electrician with support from an electrical apprentice
Every component was selected to match the ampacity needs of a Level 2 charger and the installation conditions at the property.
Why a 60A Circuit for Level 2 Charging?
Many Level 2 EV chargers deliver up to 48 amps of continuous charging. A 60-amp breaker with #6 THHN in EMT is a common design that aligns with continuous-load sizing and manufacturer requirements for higher-output residential EVSE. This approach helps reduce charge times and provides headroom for future vehicle needs when permitted by the charger specifications and panel capacity.
