Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Locust, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, completed a code-compliant Level 2 EV charger installation for homeowner Larry Pointer in Locust, NC. The project wrapped on April 13, 2026 and included a dedicated 240V circuit tailored to the charger’s specifications, a new 45-amp breaker, and properly sized conductors for reliable daily charging.
To keep everything on the right side of local requirements and utility protocols, we secured a Duke permit before energizing the circuit. The result is a safe, efficient charging setup that’s ready for routine use and future inspection.
What we installed
- Customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger installed per manufacturer instructions (appropriate hardwire or receptacle termination completed as required by the unit).
- New 45-amp, 2-pole breaker dedicated to the EV charging circuit for dependable power delivery.
- Approximately 10 feet of 6/3 NM-B wiring on a 240V circuit, an appropriate conductor size commonly used for higher-load appliances and EV charging.
- Duke permit obtained to support a compliant installation and smooth final inspection.
Every component was selected to match the charger’s load and local code requirements, providing steady charging performance and added peace of mind.
Why a dedicated 45A circuit matters
Level 2 EV chargers draw significant continuous current. A dedicated 45-amp circuit ensures the charger has its own protected power source sized to the unit’s nameplate rating and applicable code rules. Pairing the circuit with 6/3 NM-B wiring provides the appropriate conductor capacity and helps minimize voltage drop on the run used for this installation.
Code-compliant and permit-ready EV charging
From permitting through final connections, our process is built around safety and compliance. By pulling the required Duke permit, we aligned the project with local standards and utility expectations, positioning the installation for a smooth inspection and reliable day-to-day operation.
