Project overview
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch, based in Matthews, completed a Level 2 EV charger installation for Robert Fisher in Kannapolis, NC on June 3, 2026. The homeowner supplied the plug-in EV charging unit, and our team provided a dedicated 50-amp circuit, a 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet, and a permitted, code-compliant installation.
Scope of work completed
- 50-amp breaker added: Installed a new 50A standard breaker to power the Level 2 charging circuit.
- Conduit installation: Mounted approximately 1-inch PVC conduit with appropriate fittings and supports to protect and route the conductors cleanly.
- THHN conductors pulled: Ran THHN #8 copper wiring to provide a robust, dedicated 240V supply for the charger.
- NEMA 14-50 receptacle set: Installed a 4-prong 14-50 outlet for the customer’s plug-in EVSE.
- Electrical permit filed: Submitted the electrical permit with the county for inspection and compliance.
This configuration delivers reliable Level 2 charging performance and is a popular option for many EV owners who prefer a plug-in charger over a hardwired unit.
Why this setup is a great fit for Level 2 charging
- Faster charging than Level 1: A dedicated 240V, 50A circuit significantly reduces charge times compared to standard 120V outlets.
- Flexible and serviceable: With a NEMA 14-50 receptacle, the EVSE can be unplugged for relocation, upgrade, or service.
- Clean, protected wiring: THHN conductors in PVC conduit offer durable, tidy routing that meets code requirements.
Permit and code compliance
We handled the electrical permit for this installation. Please note: the permit included is for electrical work only. If a project requires other permits (such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, separate subcontractor, or builder-related permits), those are not included. If additional non-electrical permits are needed, we will let you know which ones you can handle directly and can also provide pricing if you’d like us to process those on your behalf.
