Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric recently completed a professional Level 2 EV charger installation in Charlotte, NC for Duke Energy - Allumia. Performed by our Charlotte team out of our Matthews branch, this project delivered a future-ready 240V charging solution tailored for reliable, fast home charging.

Completion date: June 12, 2025
Lead technician: Viktor Opalko
Primary service: EV Charging — Level 2 EV Charger Installation

Scope of work completed

  • Installed a dedicated 60A breaker for a 240V Level 2 EV circuit.
  • Ran approximately SEU #6 (3‑wire) feeder for the new EV circuit to support up to 60A charging loads.
  • Connected a customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger with either a hardwired connection or appropriate receptacle, as specified by the unit.
  • Filed the electrical permit with the county and coordinated the work to meet local code requirements.

This setup provides ample capacity for many residential Level 2 EVSE models, improving charge speeds versus standard 120V charging and offering headroom for future EVs.

Code-compliant installation and safety

Our team followed current NEC and local code practices for overcurrent protection, conductor sizing, and equipment grounding. A properly sized 60A breaker and #6 conductors help minimize voltage drop and heat buildup, supporting stable charging performance. We also ensure correct mounting clearances and labeling for straightforward operation and service.

Permit requirements vary by jurisdiction. For this project we handled the electrical permit. If a project requires additional non-electrical permits (such as zoning, environmental, or historic), we provide guidance and, when requested, can quote assistance for processing those permits.

Duke Energy rebate eligibility

This installation is Duke Energy rebate eligible. Touchstone Electric helps homeowners and property managers gather the documentation typically needed for rebate submissions, including permit details and installation specifics. Program rules can change, so we confirm eligibility requirements during planning and provide a clear breakdown of the qualifying scope.

If you’re in Charlotte and considering a Level 2 charger, ask our team about current Duke Energy incentives and how to streamline your application.

Why choose a 60A Level 2 circuit?

  • Faster charging: Substantially reduces charge times compared to 120V Level 1 charging.
  • Future-ready capacity: Supports many higher-output EVSE units and next-generation EVs.
  • Dedicated reliability: A dedicated 240V circuit helps ensure consistent performance without impacting other home loads.
  • Resale appeal: Professionally installed EV charging can enhance a property’s convenience and value.
