Touchstone Electric completed a professional Level 2 EV charger installation in Charlotte, NC for Duke Energy - Allumia. Our Matthews branch dispatched Ben Lively to handle the project, delivering a safe, code-compliant setup designed for fast home charging and streamlined rebate submission. The work was completed on December 3, 2024.
This project included a dedicated 60-amp circuit, SEU #6 wiring, proper overcurrent protection, and full permitting—everything needed to support reliable Level 2 charging and meet local code requirements.
What We Installed
To ensure dependable performance and safety for a high-output Level 2 EV charger, our electrician completed the following:
- Dedicated 60A breaker: A new 60-amp circuit was installed to provide the amperage and continuous-load capacity a Level 2 EV charger requires.
- SEU #6 wiring: We ran SEU #6 (three-wire) cable to serve the charger, sized for the load and installed with proper terminations and torqueing practices.
- Conduit and fittings: Where needed, we installed conduit and protective fittings to safeguard the wiring path and maintain a clean, professional finish.
- Charger connection: The customer-supplied EV charging equipment was mounted and either hard-wired or connected via an appropriate receptacle, following manufacturer guidelines.
- Labeling and testing: The new circuit was labeled at the panel, and the system was tested for correct operation, voltage, and grounding.
By right-sizing the circuit and using quality materials, this installation supports faster charging, reduced heat buildup, and long-term reliability.
Permit Secured and Rebate-Ready
We handled the city permit from start to finish so the customer didn’t have to. All work was performed to current electrical code and utility program standards, making the installation Duke Energy rebate-ready. That means documentation is straightforward and the installation meets the typical requirements for program submission and inspection.
