Project overview in Raleigh, NC

Our Raleigh branch completed a Level 2 EV charger installation and whole-home surge protection for homeowner Stephen Rossen on August 29, 2025. Lead technician Brad Williams handled the entire project, from permitting to final testing, ensuring a safe, code-compliant upgrade for EV charging and home-wide electrical protection.

This EV Charging service falls under our Level 2 EV Charger Installation category and was completed with our Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty on all work performed.

What we installed

  • Electrical permit filed with the county to meet local code requirements in Raleigh.
  • Customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger installed on a dedicated 60-amp circuit for reliable at-home charging.
  • New 60A breaker added to the main panel and circuit labeling updated.
  • #6 SEU (3-wire) cable routed for the charger’s dedicated feeder, sized for the 60-amp load.
  • Whole-home surge protective device (SPD) installed at the main electrical panel to safeguard the home’s electrical system and connected equipment.

Every connection, torque setting, and device location was verified for manufacturer specifications and NEC compliance. We also performed functional testing of the EV charging circuit to confirm proper operation.

Permitting and code compliance

Touchstone Electric managed the electrical permit for this project in Raleigh, streamlining the process for the homeowner. Please note: the included permit covers the electrical scope only. If a project requires additional non-electric permits (such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, separate subcontractor, or builder permits), those are not included; if needed, we will identify them and provide next steps or pricing for assistance.

Whole-home surge protection details

The installed SPD sits at the main panel and diverts excess voltage to ground before it can travel through the home’s circuits. This helps protect wiring and covered devices from surges caused by lightning-induced events, utility grid fluctuations, and large appliances cycling on and off. Reducing repetitive surge stress can extend the lifespan of sensitive electronics and major appliances.

This surge protector includes a $10,000 connected equipment warranty for 3 years in the unlikely event of SPD failure. Claims are secondary to the homeowner’s existing insurance policy, and direct lightning strikes are excluded.

Covered equipment and exclusions

Covered Equipment generally includes (when protected with a properly connected Boltshield SPD):

  • Washer, dryer, refrigerator, and freezer
  • Indoor HVAC unit (inside the house), furnace, air handler, and evaporator coils
  • Dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove/range, and trash compactor
  • Wiring, outlets/switches, and electrical system components (including breakers)
  • Hardwired devices such as built-in microwaves, landscape lighting, and home lighting

Not covered: security systems and medical equipment are specifically excluded.
