Level 2 EV Charger Install and Panel Rejuvenation in Flat Rock, NC

Completed on February 25, 2026, this residential EV charging project in Flat Rock, NC was performed by Touchstone Electric’s Asheville team, serving the area from our Hendersonville branch. Technicians Frank Fragale and Michail Barankevich handled the installation and safety upgrades with careful attention to detail for the homeowner, Duke Energy - Allumia.

Project overview

Our team installed a dedicated Level 2 EV charging circuit sized for 60A capacity to serve a garage-mounted EVSE. The run was routed cleanly through the basement/crawlspace to reach the charging location with a protected, code-conscious pathway.

  • Installed a dedicated 240V Level 2 EV charging circuit to the garage
  • Ran approximately 30 feet of heavy-gauge NM-B 6/3 cable for reliable performance
  • Installed a properly sized two-pole breaker matched to the circuit and equipment
  • Connected the customer-supplied EV charger per manufacturer specifications
  • Verified operation and labeled the new circuit for easy identification

This setup provides faster home charging, supporting routine overnight top-offs and reliable readiness for daily driving.

Panel rejuvenation and safety corrections

During the visit, we completed a comprehensive panel rejuvenation to improve safety, organization, and long-term reliability. We also resolved grounding/neutral issues discovered in the main panel.

  • Vacuumed and cleaned the panel interior, removing debris and dust
  • Re-tensioned lugs and breaker terminations to manufacturer torque specs
  • Separated neutrals and grounds and added ground bars to correct an overfilled, double-tapped ground bar
  • Ensured one conductor per lug and tidy conductor routing
  • Inspected for water intrusion and re-sealed openings to deter corrosion and pests
  • Applied antioxidant compound on conductors where appropriate
  • Tested AFCI/GFCI protection (with homeowner consent) to confirm proper operation
  • Verified proper service voltage and overall panel health

These corrections help reduce nuisance trips, heat build-up, and connection failures while aligning the panel with current best practices.

Permit, inspection, and Duke Energy rebate support

Touchstone Electric obtained the required permit for this Flat Rock installation and coordinated inspection as part of our standard process. We also assisted with Duke Energy EV rebate documentation so the homeowner could take advantage of available program benefits.
