Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Six Mile, SC
Touchstone Electric’s Columbia branch completed a clean, code-compliant Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Six Mile, SC. Led by technician Johann Fischer, this project provided a dedicated 60-amp circuit and a hardwired connection for reliable, fast home EV charging. Completed on August 21, 2026, the work was performed to meet current electrical code and utility program standards.
What We Installed
- Hardwired Level 2 EV charger on a dedicated 60A circuit for stable, continuous charging.
- 60A Square D QO breaker installed in the main panel for high-quality overcurrent protection.
- #6 THHN conductors (approximately 8 feet) pulled in conduit for proper ampacity and heat dissipation.
- 3/4 in. PVC conduit (approximately 7 feet) routed and secured with appropriate fittings for a neat, protected run.
- #6 SEU cable (approximately 3 feet) used as specified to complete the feeder transition safely and efficiently.
The charger was hardwired to eliminate plug-related voltage drop and connection wear, and the circuit was clearly labeled for easy identification.
Why a 60A Circuit for Level 2?
A dedicated 60-amp circuit is a common choice for modern Level 2 EV chargers. Under typical continuous-load sizing, a 60A breaker supports up to 48A of charging output, helping reduce charge times while keeping thermal loads within code allowances. Our team sizes wire, protection, and conduit to match the EVSE specifications and site conditions for dependable performance.
Code-Compliant, Utility-Ready Work
All work was performed to current electrical best practices and with attention to the requirements of EV charging equipment. Conduit routing, supports, and terminations were installed for durability and serviceability, with conductor sizing and breaker selection aligned to the equipment rating and continuous-load rules. This job reflects provisions in NEC Article 625 for Electric Vehicle Power Transfer Systems and general branch-circuit requirements.
- Proper overcurrent protection with Square D QO technology
- Neat conduit runs and secured fittings for mechanical protection
- Correct conductor sizing and terminations for a 60A EV circuit
- Clear panel labeling and a tidy, professional finish
