Project overview

Touchstone Electric completed a Level 2 EV charger preparation and dedicated 60-amp circuit in Greer, SC on February 23, 2026. Led by technician Tyler Harris from our Greenville branch in Taylors, this project readied the homeowner’s garage for a future, customer-supplied EV charging unit while keeping everything neat, code-compliant, and permit-approved.

The homeowner’s workplace will be providing the EV charger and vehicle, so our team designed a flexible, standards-based installation that will accommodate common Level 2 charging requirements once the unit is on site.

Scope of work

  • Electrical permit filed with the county to ensure the work meets local codes and is inspection-ready as required.
  • New 60A breaker installed in the existing QO panel to power a dedicated EV charging circuit.
  • Pulled approximately 65 ft of #6 THHN conductors to support the 60-amp circuit for reliable, high-capacity charging.
  • Installed about 60 ft of 3/4 in PVC conduit, surface-mounted cleanly across the garage ceiling to the left side, including secure straps, connectors, and fittings.
  • Integrated #6 SEU conductors where needed for proper terminations and transitions.
  • Prepared the location for a Level 2 EV charger (customer-supplied), with provisions for either a receptacle or hardwired connection in accordance with the unit’s specifications.

Installation details that matter

Because EV charging is a continuous load, the new 60-amp circuit was carefully routed and protected in 3/4 in PVC conduit to balance safety, appearance, and accessibility. Surface-mounting across the garage keeps the run visible and serviceable while avoiding unnecessary drywall cuts, and the pathway was laid out to maintain clearances and minimize obstructions.

At the QO panel, all terminations were made to manufacturer torque specifications, and the breaker and circuit were clearly labeled for future reference. Conductors were sized appropriately for the circuit rating and installation conditions, giving the homeowner a durable foundation for fast, dependable Level 2 charging.

Permitting and code compliance in Greer, SC

Our team handled the electrical permitting so the homeowner doesn’t have to. Filing the permit helps ensure the project follows the National Electrical Code and local jurisdictional requirements in Greer, SC. If an inspection is required, the installation is ready to be reviewed for safety and compliance.

A future-ready setup for a customer-supplied charger

The homeowner was still confirming the specific EV and charging unit their company would provide. To keep the project moving, we delivered a flexible, future-ready 60-amp circuit and charging location that will work with many popular Level 2 EVSE models. When the charger arrives, it can be connected to the prepared circuit with minimal downtime.
