Professional Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a clean, code-compliant Level 2 EV charger installation for homeowner Aaron Halpin in Charlotte. Led by technician Jose Rodriguez and supported by our Matthews-based branch, this project was finished on August 25, 2025 and included a dedicated 60-amp circuit, new wiring, protective conduit, and full permitting for a safe, reliable setup.

Whether you’re upgrading from a Level 1 charger or adding EV charging to a new home, our licensed electricians deliver a neat, properly sized installation that’s built to last and ready for inspection.

What We Installed

  • Dedicated 60A breaker installed in the service panel for the EV circuit
  • 35 ft of #6 THHN conductors to support the higher load of Level 2 charging
  • Approximately 30 ft of 1-inch PVC conduit with the proper fittings, supports, and LBs for mechanical protection and a tidy run
  • Customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger mounted and connected per manufacturer specifications
  • Electrical permit filed with the county to ensure inspection and documentation

We carefully planned the circuit route to minimize exposure, protect the conductors, and maintain clear working space at the panel and charging location. All labeling and identification were completed so the circuit is easy to locate and reference in the future.

Why a 60-Amp Circuit for Level 2 Charging

Many higher-output Level 2 EV chargers are designed to be used on a 60-amp circuit to provide faster charging and to align with electrical code requirements for continuous loads. Using #6 THHN conductors and a properly rated breaker ensures the circuit can handle the sustained current draw associated with EV charging while keeping heat and voltage drop in check over the 35-foot run.

The result is a dedicated, right-sized electrical path that gives your EV charger the power it needs without overloading other household circuits.

Code-Compliant Conduit and Wiring

We installed 1-inch PVC conduit to protect the new EV conductors and maintain a clean appearance. The conduit was mounted with appropriate straps, fittings, and LBs, and routed to avoid unnecessary bends or pinch points. This approach shields the wiring from physical damage, simplifies future service, and supports a long service life for the installation.

Every termination was made securely and the circuit was checked for proper polarity and breaker function before energizing the charger.

Permitting and Inspections

We handled the electrical permit with the county so the work can be inspected and documented for compliance. Please note: jurisdictions vary. This project included the electrical permit only. If a Historic Preservation permit, Environmental/Septic permit, Zoning application, separate subcontractor permit, Builder’s permit, or other non-electrical permit is required, those are not included. If additional permits are needed, we’ll let you know what’s required and can provide a price if you’d like us to process those on your behalf.

Customer Feedback

After the job was complete, Aaron Halpin praised our Charlotte team with a positive review of the installation experience and results. We appreciate the trust and are proud to deliver EV charging solutions that homeowners can rely on every day.
