Project overview

Touchstone Electric completed a Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC. Our Charlotte team, based out of the Matthews branch, installed a dedicated 60-amp Level 2 charging circuit, connected the customer-supplied EV charger, and handled permitting and rebate assistance. The work was completed on December 18, 2025, by lead technician Chris Rogers.

This project falls under our EV Charging services, with a focus on Level 2 EV charger installation for reliable, faster at-home charging.

What we installed

  • Eaton BR 60A breaker: A new 60-amp breaker was added to provide a dedicated, properly protected circuit for the EV charger.
  • 60 ft of #6 SEU cable: We routed approximately 60 feet of #6 SEU (3-wire) conductor to deliver the required capacity and minimize voltage drop to the charging location.
  • Major appliance hookup: Our team completed the EV charger hookup (customer-supplied EVSE), including either receptacle installation or hard-wiring as appropriate for the unit.
  • Permit and inspection: Permit was pulled for the new EV charging circuit to ensure the installation meets current electrical codes and is ready for inspection.
  • Apprentice-assisted installation: The project was completed by Chris Rogers with support from an electrical apprentice for efficiency and quality control.

Why a 60A Level 2 circuit?

Many modern Level 2 EV chargers benefit from a 60-amp dedicated circuit, which supports a continuous charging load appropriate for higher-output home EVSE units. This configuration helps reduce charging times compared to lower-amp circuits, while providing headroom for future vehicle or equipment upgrades.

Using #6 SEU wiring over the 60-foot run ensures the circuit is sized for performance and safety. Pairing that with a quality Eaton BR breaker delivers reliable protection and compatibility with common residential panels in the Charlotte area.

Permitting and Duke Energy rebate assistance

Compliance matters for safety and for qualifying incentives. Our team secured the required permit for this EV charging circuit. We also assisted the customer with the Duke Energy EV rebate process, helping gather the documentation typically needed to submit an application after installation.

If you’re in Charlotte, we can guide you through the paperwork and timing so you can take advantage of available utility incentives where applicable.

Professional installation by our Charlotte team

Lead technician Chris Rogers oversaw the installation, with an apprentice supporting the project to maintain an efficient workflow and clean finish. From panel work and cable routing to the EVSE hookup, our focus was on a neat, code-compliant install that’s ready for daily use.

  • Dedicated circuit added for the EV charger
  • Correct wire sizing for distance and load
  • Secure terminations and labeling
  • Permit obtained and inspection coordination
