Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a permitted Level 2 EV charging outlet installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos, this project delivered a robust 50-amp EV receptacle on a 60-amp circuit using EMT conduit and THHN #6 conductors. The work was completed on July 8, 2025 and included end-to-end support, from permitting to rebate guidance.
This installation was designed to provide reliable, faster at-home or facility charging capability while maintaining code compliance, safety, and a clean, professional finish.
What We Installed
- 50-amp EV outlet: Dedicated receptacle suitable for Level 2 charging applications.
- 60-amp breaker: New overcurrent protection sized for the load and compatible with the existing panel.
- THHN #6 copper conductors (approx. 25 ft): Properly sized wiring for a 60-amp circuit.
- 3/4" EMT conduit (approx. 25 ft): Rigid metallic protection for conductors with secure fittings and supports.
- Electrical permit: Permit filed with the local authority having jurisdiction to ensure inspection and compliance.
All materials and components were selected to meet applicable code requirements and to support the continuous demands of Level 2 charging.
Code-Compliant Methods and a Clean Finish
Our team routed conductors in 3/4" EMT for durable mechanical protection and organized the run to keep the space neat and serviceable. THHN #6 wiring was used for the 60-amp circuit, and terminations were torqued to manufacturer specifications. The new breaker was clearly labeled, and we verified correct polarity, grounding, and GEC/bonding continuity.
Because this was a permitted project, we coordinated inspection to verify compliance with local codes and utility requirements. The end result is a safe, dependable Level 2 charging outlet that’s ready for daily use.
