Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed a professional Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Chapel Hill, NC. Led by technician Cody Perry, the job included adding a new dedicated 50A circuit, running appropriately sized wiring, installing protective conduit, and pulling the required electrical permit. The installation is eligible for the Duke Energy EV charger rebate, helping reduce the overall out-of-pocket cost for the customer.

What we installed
- Level 2 EV charger connection: We safely connected the customer-supplied charger during a single visit, ensuring a clean and reliable setup for faster at‑home charging.
- New 50A breaker: Installed a dedicated two-pole 50-amp breaker to support the charging load typical of Level 2 equipment.
- 6/2 NM-B wiring: Ran a dedicated 6/2 circuit from the service panel to the charger location to deliver the required amperage and minimize voltage drop over the run.
- Protective raceways: Used 3/4-inch PVC conduit for exposed sections and liquidtight flexible conduit at the equipment connection for durability and a professional finish.
- Permit handled: Our Raleigh team pulled the necessary electrical permit for a code-compliant installation and a smooth inspection process.
This combination of a 50A circuit, 6/2 wiring, and protective conduit provides a robust foundation for most residential Level 2 charging needs, improving charging speed and convenience compared to standard 120V outlets.
