About this EV charging project in Belton, SC

On March 26, 2026, Touchstone Electric’s Greenville team based in Taylors completed a residential Level 2 EV charger installation in Belton, SC for Duke Energy - Allumia. Lead technician Cash Divver installed a dedicated 240-volt, 50-amp circuit for the customer-supplied charger, coordinated the required permit, and supported the Duke Energy rebate process to streamline approval and reimbursement.

Scope of work

  • Installed a dedicated 50A two-pole breaker to serve the Level 2 EV charger.
  • Ran new 6/3 NM-B copper wiring with secure terminations and clear panel labeling.
  • Addressed a full electrical panel by installing tandem 20A breakers to create the needed space for the new EV circuit.
  • Handled permitting and job documentation to support inspection and utility requirements.
  • Completed functional testing of the charger circuit and a homeowner walkthrough at the end of the visit.

This installation provides reliable Level 2 charging and is set up to support consistent overnight charging without disrupting other household circuits.

Managing a full electrical panel

The existing loadcenter was at capacity. Our solution was to install tandem 20A breakers for small-appliance circuits to free panel space, then add the dedicated 50A breaker for the EV charger. Because work on full panels involves additional considerations, a liability waiver was required for this scope before proceeding.

Permits and Duke Energy rebate support

We coordinated the necessary permit and provided the documentation needed for the Duke Energy EV rebate. Our team assisted with photos and close-out paperwork to help simplify the process and reduce out-of-pocket costs for the homeowner. From application steps to final documentation, Touchstone Electric works to make utility-incentivized EV charging upgrades straightforward and efficient.

Why a 50-amp Level 2 circuit?

  • Faster charging: Level 2 service is significantly quicker than Level 1, making overnight top-ups practical for daily driving.
  • Right-sized conductors: 6/3 copper wiring is selected for the 50A circuit, helping ensure safe, reliable performance.
  • Flexibility: Compatible with many popular EV chargers, whether hardwired or receptacle-based (depending on the model’s requirements).
  • Dedicated capacity: A standalone circuit minimizes nuisance trips and helps protect sensitive EVSE electronics.
