Project overview
On January 23, 2025, Touchstone Electric’s Matthews-based Charlotte team completed a professional Level 2 EV charger installation in Indian Land, SC for Duke Energy - Allumia. Lead technician Gump Martin handled permitting, installed a dedicated 50-amp circuit, and delivered a clean, code-compliant connection for the customer-supplied Level 2 EVSE.
This installation provides fast, reliable charging performance and was designed to meet current electrical code requirements while supporting future EV needs.
Scope of work
- Permitting and approvals: We secured the required permit and coordinated all documentation for a smooth approval process.
- Dedicated 50A breaker: Installed a standard 50-amp breaker in the existing service panel to supply a dedicated Level 2 charging circuit.
- 1-inch PVC conduit: Mounted and routed approximately 40 feet of 1-inch PVC conduit with the proper connectors, supports, and LBs for a durable and neat installation.
- #6 THHN conductors: Pulled roughly 50 feet of #6 THHN copper conductors sized appropriately for the circuit length and load, with clearly labeled terminations.
- EV charger connection: Provided the dedicated circuit and a compliant receptacle or hardwired termination to match the EVSE manufacturer’s requirements.
- Testing and verification: Completed start-up checks, including voltage and polarity verification and equipment function testing.
Duke Energy EV rebate applied
To help reduce the customer’s out-of-pocket cost, our team processed the applicable Duke Energy EV charger rebate for this project. We guide homeowners through eligibility and paperwork so they can take advantage of available incentives without the hassle.
