Level 2 EV Charger and RV-Style Outlet Installed in Waxhaw, NC
Our Charlotte team based out of Matthews completed a Level 2 EV charging circuit and RV-style outlet installation for homeowner Craig Plessinger in Waxhaw. Completed on July 29, 2026, this project provides safe, convenient driveway charging with a durable outdoor setup designed for everyday use.
With the main panel located at the back of the home, our licensed technicians—Michael Bentkowski, Matt Silber, Anthony Vazquez, and Mark Alaev—ran a new 50-amp GFCI-protected circuit through the attic, transitioned to underground Schedule 80 PVC, and terminated at a wood post with a weatherproof receptacle box near the driveway.
What We Installed
- 50A GFCI breaker in the home’s main panel to protect the outdoor EV/RV receptacle circuit.
- Attic and underground run from the panel on the back of the home to the driveway area.
- 1” Schedule 80 PVC conduit underground for added durability and protection (approx. 45 ft).
- Trenching at 18–24 inches to route the conduit safely to the charging location (approx. 35 ft).
- Wood post set in concrete to provide a stable mounting point at the driveway.
- Weatherproof receptacle box configured as an RV-style 50A outlet suitable for Level 2 EV charging.
- New wiring including THHN #6 conductors (approx. 50 ft) and 6/3 NM-B (approx. 60 ft) as appropriate for the route.
- Visible conduit and a junction box on the left side of the home per the planned pathway.
- Permitting and inspection, including processing of the required Duke permit and trench inspection prior to final backfill.
This installation supports a customer-supplied Level 2 EV charging setup and provides the flexibility of a robust RV-style receptacle outdoors.
How the 3‑Day Process Worked
- Day 1 – Trench and Set Post: We laid out the route, completed the trench to depth, and installed the wood post in concrete at the driveway.
- Day 2 – Conduit, Wire, and Inspection Call: Our crew ran the Schedule 80 PVC and pulled conductors, made attic and exterior transitions, and called for the trench inspection.
- Day 3 – Backfill After Pass: Once the trench inspection passed, we backfilled and neatened the work area for a clean finish.
Note: Trenching can temporarily disturb turf and landscaping; after inspection, we returned soil to grade as planned.
