LED Recessed Lighting Installation and Whole‑Home Upgrades in Lake Lure, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a large-scale lighting and power upgrade for Ember House Holdings LLC in Lake Lure, NC. Performed by our Asheville team at our Hendersonville branch, this project was finished on September 26, 2025 by technicians Aaron Smith, Frank Fragale, and Will Cruz.
This job centered on modern, energy‑efficient LED lighting, robust outlet and switching solutions, and dependable backup power readiness—all designed to make everyday living easier and safer.
Project Highlights
- Extensive LED recessed lighting: 138 cans per the plan plus 15 added by the contractor/homeowner for targeted brightness and uniform coverage.
- Under‑cabinet lighting: Clean, task‑ready illumination with dedicated transformer for consistent performance.
- Expanded power access: TV outlets, floor outlets, porch and soffit receptacles, and specialized half‑hot outlets to support seasonal decor.
- Convenient control: New 3‑way switches and switch legs for fireplace cans, garage access, island lighting, and window candle lights.
- Generator interlock and inlet: Safe, code‑compliant manual transfer solution to keep essentials running during outages.
Lighting Upgrades We Completed
- Installed LED recessed wafer cans per plan, plus additions in key spaces: 3 in the garage, 2 in the living room, 2 in the kitchen, and 1 in the stairwell.
- Under‑cabinet lighting installed with a dedicated transformer for smooth dimming and clear countertop visibility.
- Added sconces at the upper back porch and the garage side door for layered outdoor lighting.
- Provided an extra switch leg for enhanced lighting above the kitchen island.
- Added 3‑way switching for garage side entrance lighting and for fireplace can lights.
- Installed and wired low‑voltage candle lights to each specified window, with transformers located in the attic and fixtures placed at the windows for a uniform appearance.
- Installed several customer‑supplied fixtures (ceiling lights/fans) on existing boxes and circuits.
New Outlets, Specialized Receptacles, and Controls
- Four TV outlets strategically located in the master, living room, upstairs bedroom, and theatre.
- Three floor outlets in the living room (half of project cost), minimizing extension cords for furniture layouts.
- Front door receptacles set as half‑hot pairs, ideal for Christmas trees and seasonal decor.
- Soffit outlet on the front porch for Christmas lights, plus an Edison‑style outlet on the downstairs back porch.
- Two outlets at the back upstairs porch and pre‑wiring for a third inside the future screened enclosure.
- Additional outlets in the laundry room and pantry for convenient appliance use.
- Two switch legs to the attic for window candle lighting and a dedicated switch for easy control.
Backup Power: Generator Interlock and Inlet
To prepare the home for outages, we installed a generator inlet and interlock kit near the downstairs garage door. Our team reconfigured the electrical panel to locate the generator breaker and priority circuits at the top‑left positions, then applied clear panel labeling to guide safe operation during an outage. The installation includes a 50‑amp breaker, interlock kit, up to 15 feet of feeder from the panel to the inlet, and a 15‑foot whip for quick connection. This manual transfer solution protects the generator, the home, and utility personnel by preventing back‑feeding.
Professional Materials and Craftsmanship
- Extended service with SER 4/0 (4‑wire) service entrance cable from the main panel to a subpanel for reliable capacity.
- NM‑B Romex wiring for dedicated circuits and lighting: 12/2 for 20‑amp appliance/outlet runs, 14/2 for general lighting, and 14/3 for 3‑way switching.
- Low‑voltage 18/4 cabling for window candle circuits and clean attic routing.
- Wafer‑style recessed fixtures for long life and tight‑space installations.
- Under‑cabinet light strips with a matched transformer for stable, flicker‑free operation.
- Specialty receptacles where needed for unique fixtures and holiday lighting.
