About this kitchen electrical upgrade in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a comprehensive kitchen electrical upgrade for Griffin Building on February 5, 2026. From our Matthews branch, our licensed technicians delivered clean, code-focused workmanship to support a remodeled layout with new lighting, outlets, relocated switches, and dedicated appliance circuits.
Scope of work
- Dedicated circuits: Installed and supplied two new 20-amp circuits for a microwave in the island and a refrigerator at the wet bar for reliable performance and reduced nuisance tripping.
- Can lighting: Installed and supplied a new 6-inch can light with a dedicated switch for targeted task lighting.
- Dimming control: Installed two dimmer switches to give precise control over can light levels and ambiance.
- Switch relocation: Relocated switching for the can lights, pendant lights, dishwasher, and garbage disposal to match the new kitchen layout and improve usability.
- New outlets: Installed three new standard outlets—one at the island and two in the wet bar area—to provide convenient access to power where it’s needed most.
- Appliance hookups: Installed and connected the hood vent and microwave to the appropriate circuits and controls.
- Glass cabinet lighting: Installed and supplied LED strip lights with a dedicated transformer to illuminate glass-front cabinets with even, low-profile lighting.
Materials and components used
- Breakers and wiring: Two 20-amp breakers with NM-B 12/2 wiring for the small-appliance circuits, plus NM-B 14/2 wiring for lighting runs.
- Lighting devices: One 6-inch can light fixture, two dimmer switches, and standard switches for control points.
- Receptacles: Three standard outlets with covers for island and wet bar usage.
- Under-cabinet system: LED strip lighting paired with a transformer for consistent, efficient cabinet illumination.
Permitting, safety, and code-focused details
We filed the electrical permit with the county and coordinated the required inspections for this Charlotte project. As part of our quality process, we also performed a panel rejuvenation, which included:
- Vacuuming and cleaning the panel interior and re-tensioning lugs and breaker terminals.
- Verifying proper separation of neutrals and grounds with one conductor per lug.
- Inspecting for signs of water intrusion and sealing any openings.
- Confirming correct service voltage and applying antioxidant where needed.
- With customer consent, testing arc-fault and GFCI breakers for proper functionality.
These steps help support long-term reliability, reduce the chance of overheating at terminations, and enhance overall system safety for the upgraded kitchen.
Benefits for this Charlotte kitchen
- Reliable appliance power: Dedicated 20-amp circuits ensure the microwave and wet bar fridge have the capacity they require.
- Better lighting and control: The added can light and dimmers create flexible task and mood lighting for cooking and entertaining.
- Smarter switch layout: Relocated switches place everyday controls where they make the most sense in the new floor plan.
- Clean aesthetics: Low-profile strip lighting beautifully highlights glass cabinets without visible hotspots.
