Professional Hot Tub Wiring & Spa Disconnect in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Matthews branch completed a specialty hot tub wiring project for homeowner Anthony Durrah in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos, this installation delivered a dedicated 240V 60A circuit, an outdoor spa emergency disconnect, and clean conduit runs—finished and inspection-ready on July 23, 2024.

As a local pool and hot tub electrical specialist, our Charlotte team prioritizes safety, code compliance, and neat workmanship so your spa is reliable from day one.

Scope of Work

  • Installed a dedicated 240V 50/60A circuit for the hot tub per manufacturer and code requirements.
  • Placed an outdoor spa emergency disconnect over 5 ft from the unit and within line of sight.
  • Grounded the unit at the manufacturer’s bonding/grounding lug using an insulated equipment grounding conductor.
  • Provided a convenience receptacle between 6–20 ft from the spa, as required.
  • Handled the electrical trade permit filing with the city/county and scheduled the relevant inspection(s).
  • Installed a 60A standard breaker matched to the new spa circuit.
  • Completed the work with a two-person crew to ensure quality, safety, and an efficient timeline.

Materials and Installation Details

  • 1" PVC Conduit (approx. 30 ft) with fittings and LBs for a clean, protected exterior run and transitions.
  • THHN Conductors sized for the load, including #6 for the 60A circuit and #4 utilized as needed for feeder/subpanel tie-in.
  • NM-B 4/3 cable (approx. 60 ft) for appropriate interior routing where applicable.
  • 60A breaker serving the new dedicated spa circuit.

All components were selected and installed to align with current codes and the spa manufacturer’s specifications. Conductor sizing, equipment placement, and clearances were carefully planned to support safe operation and a streamlined inspection.

Code-Focused, Inspection-Ready Results

Hot tubs typically require a dedicated 240V 50–60A supply, a clearly labeled and readily accessible disconnect, proper grounding, and a nearby receptacle at defined distances. Our Charlotte electricians follow the National Electrical Code and local amendments, verifying distances, wire sizing, and overcurrent protection so your spa is ready for inspection and long-term use.
