Hot Tub Electrical Installation in Southport, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed a permitted hot tub electrical installation for Kimberly & Gregory Gisler in Southport, NC. Led by technician Francisco Martinez, this project delivered a safe, code-compliant power solution with a dedicated 240V circuit, a 50A GFCI breaker, and a properly located emergency disconnect. The work was completed on April 17, 2025 and is backed by our Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty.
Whether you are adding a new spa or upgrading an existing one, our Specialty and Pool & Hot Tub Electrical team follows national and local code requirements to protect your family and equipment while ensuring trouble-free operation.
What We Installed
- Electrical permit: Filed and approved with the county to ensure the project met all inspection and compliance requirements.
- Dedicated 240V circuit with 50A GFCI breaker: Provides the required power for the hot tub while offering ground-fault protection to reduce shock risk in wet environments.
- Emergency disconnect (≤60A pull-out): A code-required, within-sight service disconnect that allows safe maintenance and immediate power isolation.
- PVC conduit, 1-1/2 inch (approx. 53 ft): Routed from the main panel to the spa location with the proper fittings, connectors, and supports for a durable, weather-resistant raceway.
- THHN conductors (#6, approx. 63 ft): Appropriately sized copper wiring pulled through conduit to handle the spa’s load requirements and minimize voltage drop.
- Grounding and bonding per code: Bonded metallic components and established an equipotential plane to keep all conductive parts at the same electrical potential, improving safety around the water.
Every component was selected to meet the spa manufacturer’s specifications and local code. The GFCI breaker and disconnect placement were coordinated to satisfy inspection criteria while maintaining a clean, professional look.
Safe, Code-Compliant Spa Power
Hot tubs demand careful attention to grounding, bonding, and GFCI protection. Our technicians focus on proper conductor sizing, secure terminations, and weather-resistant raceways to ensure long-term reliability. The dedicated 240V circuit helps prevent nuisance trips from shared loads, while the emergency disconnect provides a clear, accessible shutoff for maintenance and emergencies.
We also verify correct wire routing, conductor insulation ratings, and bonding of all required metallic components to reduce the risk of stray voltage around the spa area.
Permitting and Scope
We handled the electrical permit for this project and coordinated inspection. Please note: the scope included the electrical permit only. Other jurisdictional permits (such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, separate subcontractor, or builder permits) were not included. If additional non-electrical permits are required, we identify them and can provide guidance or pricing to process those on your behalf.
