Hot Tub Electrical Hookup in Dentsville: Project Overview

Touchstone Electric’s Columbia branch completed a safe, code-compliant hot tub electrical hookup for SunSouth Carolinas in Dentsville. Led by technician Tyquan Johnson, this project included a new spa subpanel, a 50A GFCI breaker, a weatherproof safety disconnect, and cleanly routed PVC conduit to protect wiring and keep the installation looking tidy. Completed on October 23, 2025, the system is built for reliable performance and smooth inspection.

Scope of Work

We delivered a complete power solution designed specifically for hot tubs and spas, focusing on safety, durability, and neat workmanship.

  • Installed a small outdoor-rated spa subpanel (4/8 space, up to 125A) with permitting to serve the new hot tub circuit.
  • Added a 50-amp GFCI breaker to provide ground-fault protection required for spa equipment.
  • Installed a 60-amp standard breaker to properly feed the subpanel as designed.
  • Mounted a weatherproof disconnect for a clearly accessible emergency shutoff near the spa area.
  • Pulled approximately 100 ft of 6/3 NM-B cable for the 240V spa circuit, sized for a 50-amp load.
  • Routed about 25 ft of 1-inch PVC conduit with the necessary fittings and LBs for a clean, protected exterior run.
  • Completed a non-dedicated circuit extension in the crawlspace to supply an outlet where needed for convenience and service tools.
  • Installed an exterior GFCI receptacle with an in-use bubble cover for weather-resistant, code-compliant outdoor power.

The result is a neat, professional installation that keeps critical components protected outdoors while delivering the dedicated power your spa requires.

Clean, Code-Compliant Installation

Our team follows current National Electrical Code practices adopted locally. The spa subpanel, GFCI protection, and weather-resistant components are selected and placed with safety, inspection-readiness, and long-term reliability in mind.

As inspectors continue implementing NEC 2020, some homes may be required to upgrade certain breakers to AFCI. In older wiring systems, introducing AFCI protection can reveal preexisting issues (such as shared neutrals) that may cause nuisance tripping. If discovered, locating and correcting these conditions can require additional diagnostic time. We inform homeowners of these possibilities upfront so there are no surprises during inspection.
