Hot Tub Electrical Installation in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a specialty Pool & Hot Tub Electrical project for Paul Tracy, delivering a safe, code-compliant power supply for a new hot tub. Performed by technicians Robert Sloan and Theo Coetsee from our Matthews branch, this installation was completed on December 19, 2025 and included a dedicated 60-amp GFCI spa circuit, an outdoor disconnect, protective conduit, trenching, and full permitting.

Scope of Work

  • Dedicated 60A GFCI spa circuit: Supplied and installed a 60-amp GFCI-protected feeder specifically for the customer’s hot tub to meet safety and manufacturer requirements.
  • Outdoor equipment disconnect (≤60A): Installed a weather-rated, within-sight pull-out disconnect to allow safe service and maintenance shutoff.
  • Feeder wiring: Installed new 4/3 NM-B wiring with protective routing in 1" PVC conduit as appropriate for the layout and transition points.
  • Trenching: Performed approximately 5 feet of trenching at 18–24 inches of depth to accommodate the conduit path per local requirements. (Always call 811 before you dig.)
  • Major appliance hookup: Completed the electrical connection for the customer-supplied hot tub, including final terminations.
  • Permits and inspections: Secured the electrical permit and coordinated inspections with the local authority having jurisdiction.

All components were mounted, labeled, and tested to confirm correct GFCI protection, proper disconnect operation, and reliable performance of the new spa circuit.

Why GFCI and a Proper Disconnect Matter

Water and electricity demand added protection. A 60A GFCI safeguards against ground faults, while the outdoor disconnect provides a clearly identifiable means to isolate power for service. Together, they help ensure safe operation and maintenance for your hot tub.

Permitting and Code Compliance

Our Charlotte electricians handle the details—permit filings, inspections, and documentation—so your installation meets current electrical codes and manufacturer specifications. The electrical permit included in this project covered the required electrical work. Please note: if your home or project requires additional non-electrical permits (such as zoning, historic preservation, environmental/septic, or separate trade permits), those are not included; if such items are needed, we’ll advise you on next steps and options.

Customer Experience

We pride ourselves on clean workmanship, clear communication, and dependable scheduling. After this installation, Paul Tracy praised our team for the overall experience. You can view their feedback here: Read Paul’s Google review.
