Greensboro Whole-Home Rewiring & 200A Panel Upgrade
Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive whole-home rewiring and outdoor 200 amp main panel upgrade for a homeowner in Greensboro, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos from our Charlotte branch, this permitted and inspected project modernized the home’s electrical system for safety, reliability, and capacity. Completion date: March 14, 2026.
Whether you’re renovating or addressing aging wiring, our team delivers code-compliant solutions that protect your home and support today’s power needs.
Project Highlights
- Whole-home rewire (approx. 1,400 sq ft): Power was safely disconnected, legacy wiring removed from the panel, and new wiring was fished through walls and ceilings. All devices were reconnected, tested, and inspected.
- New outlets and switches: Every receptacle and switch was replaced and verified for proper grounding and secure terminations.
- Outdoor 200A main panel upgrade: The existing service equipment was replaced with a new, properly grounded and bonded panel, fully labeled for clear circuit identification.
- Breaker updates: Installed 3× 30A double-pole, 1× 50A standard, 5× 20A standard, and 5× 15A standard breakers to serve major appliances and branch circuits.
- Life-safety devices: Added 6 hardwired smoke/CO detectors for enhanced protection across the home.
- Permits and inspections: All work was completed under permit with inspections to verify code compliance and workmanship.
- Managed outage: Limited temporary power was available via generator during the service interruption to minimize disruption.
Why This Upgrade Matters
A whole-home rewiring in Greensboro replaces aging conductors and connections that can lead to overheating, nuisance tripping, and performance issues. Pairing this with a 200A outdoor main panel boosts available capacity for modern appliances and future additions like HVAC upgrades or EV charging, while improving service accessibility for maintenance.
Replacing every outlet and switch ensures consistent grounding and tighter, more reliable terminations at every point of use. Hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors add a critical layer of life safety, particularly important in multi-level and sleeping areas.
Code Compliance and Inspection Readiness
Our Charlotte branch team stays current with evolving code requirements so Greensboro homeowners receive compliant installations. This project included grounding and bonding improvements, labeling, arc-fault and ground-fault considerations where required, and thorough functional testing. If an inspector requires AFCI upgrades per the latest NEC adoption, we’re prepared to diagnose and correct any preexisting wiring conditions that may be revealed during the process.
About the 200A Outdoor Panel
The new main panel is grounded, bonded, and clearly labeled. Existing circuits were reconnected cleanly, and the service entrance conductors were re-terminated to current best practices. The installation includes surge protection for added defense against power spikes. The panel also carries a 20-year transferable warranty for long-term peace of mind.
