GFCI Outlet & 20A Circuit Installation in Waxhaw, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a safe, reliable outlet upgrade in Waxhaw, NC on November 12, 2025. Our Charlotte business unit, operating from the Matthews branch, dispatched Christian Cedillos to install a new GFCI outlet, run new wiring, and add a 20A tandem breaker for dependable power. This project was completed for David Yagnesak and aligned with our Outlets & Switches expertise and Outlet Installation & Repair services.
Project Overview
The homeowner needed a properly protected receptacle and a dedicated-capacity circuit to support higher-demand devices safely. We installed a new GFCI receptacle with a matching cover, routed new 12/2 NM-B Romex to the location, protected exposed sections with 3/4-in PVC conduit, and energized the circuit from the panel using a 20A tandem breaker. The result is a code-conscious, neatly finished installation ready for everyday use.
What We Installed
- GFCI Outlet with Cover: Provides ground-fault protection and a finished appearance at the receptacle location.
- Approximately 20 ft of 12/2 NM-B Romex: Proper gauge for a 20-amp branch circuit to support kitchens, garages, workshops, and other higher-load areas.
- About 10 ft of 3/4-in PVC Conduit: Used to protect wiring where exposed, with the appropriate connectors and supports for a secure, tidy run.
- 20A Tandem Breaker: Supplies the new circuit while maintaining panel space, delivering the ampacity needed for small appliances and power tools.
Why a GFCI on a 20A Circuit?
GFCI protection helps reduce shock risk by monitoring current imbalance and quickly shutting off power when needed. It’s a common requirement near sinks, in garages, on exterior outlets, and in other areas where moisture may be present. Pairing GFCI protection with a 20-amp circuit offers the headroom many modern devices need, minimizing nuisance trips and improving long-term reliability for connected equipment.
Our Installation Approach
We planned the cable path to minimize penetrations and ensure clean routing. Exposed sections were placed in 3/4-in PVC conduit, securely mounted and fitted with the proper connectors for a professional finish. The 12/2 NM-B cable was neatly terminated, and the GFCI outlet was installed with correct line/load orientation and verified polarity.
In the panel, we installed a 20A tandem breaker for the new circuit and provided clear circuit labeling. Before completion, we performed functional testing, including a GFCI trip test and voltage verification at the receptacle, confirming safe, correct operation.
