Project Overview

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a safe, code-compliant GFCI dedicated circuit and outdoor outlet installation for a Charlotte, NC homeowner preparing for holiday lighting. On August 9, 2024, our electricians Ben Lively and Danny Bishop added a new 20-amp circuit, routed protective conduit through the crawlspace, and provided convenient exterior power points designed for seasonal décor and year-round outdoor use.

This project falls under our Outlets & Switches services, specifically Outlet Installation & Repair, delivered by our Matthews-based Charlotte team.

Scope of Work

  • Installed a new 20-amp GFCI-protected dedicated circuit to serve exterior receptacles.
  • Routed PVC conduit from the garage slab to the exterior entry point into the crawlspace for added protection and durability.
  • Pulled new 12/2 NM-B wiring to supply the outdoor outlet locations.
  • Installed standard receptacles with covers at designated points for holiday lighting and general outdoor power.
  • Included a standard single-pole breaker as part of the dedicated circuit installation.

All work was completed cleanly and efficiently with a focus on safety, labeling, and clear accessibility for future maintenance.

Why a Dedicated 20-Amp GFCI Circuit?

  • Safety first: GFCI protection helps reduce the risk of shock around moisture-prone outdoor areas.
  • Fewer nuisance trips: A dedicated 20-amp circuit keeps holiday displays and outdoor equipment off shared circuits that may already be near capacity.
  • Code compliance: Outdoor receptacles require GFCI protection in accordance with applicable electrical codes.
  • Convenience: Strategically placed outlets minimize extension-cord runs and keep setups neat and reliable.

Our Installation Process in Charlotte

Our team assessed the panel capacity and identified optimal routes to minimize disturbance to finished areas. We installed PVC conduit from the garage slab to the exterior and into the crawlspace to protect conductors and maintain a tidy, durable run. After pulling 12/2 NM-B wire to the planned receptacle locations, we set the outlets, verified proper GFCI protection, and clearly labeled the new dedicated breaker. Final testing confirmed correct polarity, grounding, and GFCI functionality before cleanup.

Code-Compliant, Outdoor-Ready Power

From conduit routing to device placement, this installation was performed in accordance with current electrical standards for outdoor outlets in Charlotte, NC. The result is dependable, weather-appropriate power for holiday lights, patio appliances, and general exterior usage—without overloading existing household circuits.
