Gastonia, NC Subpanel Installation, Breaker & Grounding Upgrades
Completed on June 14, 2024, Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team (Matthews branch) installed a new midsized subpanel and performed breaker and grounding upgrades for homeowner Kathryn Shaw in Gastonia, NC. Lead technician: Christian Cedillos. This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Subpanel Installation services.
Project overview
To expand circuit capacity and improve safety, we installed a 12/24 indoor subpanel rated up to 125 amps, supplied by a 4‑wire SER 2/0 feeder. We also upgraded grounding at the property and provided a full home safety inspection through our Gold Membership program. All work was completed with permitting and with a focus on clean workmanship and code‑compliant practices.
What we installed
- Midsized 12/24 indoor subpanel (up to 125A) – permitted installation to support present and future circuits.
- 50 ft 4‑wire SER 2/0 feeder – a robust 125–150A class service entrance cable to supply the new subpanel.
- Breaker package for balanced distribution and reliability:
- 3 × 15A standard breakers – commonly used for lighting (including bathrooms per applicable code) and general circuits.
- 9 × 20A standard breakers – ideal for small appliance and general‑purpose receptacle circuits.
- 2 × 30A double‑pole breakers – typical for dryers, water heaters, condensers, spas, or EV equipment as specified.
- 1 × 50A standard breaker – often used for ranges, heat, subpanels, or EV charging.
- 1 × 60A standard breaker – suitable for larger appliances, heat, subpanels, or EV charging.
- 1 × special breaker – selected to meet a specific circuit requirement.
- Grounding upgrade – new ground rod driven and a continuous grounding electrode conductor routed to the main service panel to enhance fault‑clearing performance and system stability.
