Project overview in Pickens
On February 12, 2026, our Greenville team from the Taylors branch completed a Federal Pacific panel replacement and full 200A service upgrade for homeowner Ethan Wutka in Pickens. Lead technicians Aaron Smith and Tyler Harris removed recalled Federal Pacific equipment and installed a modern, code-compliant service with room for future expansion, including an EV charging circuit.
What we replaced and upgraded
- Removed the recalled interior Federal Pacific main panel and an exterior Federal Pacific disconnect that fed the home.
- Installed a 200A meter/panel combo (side-by-side with feed-through lugs), including coordination with the power provider for the temporary power drop, permit pulling, inspection scheduling, and installation of new ground rods with grounding electrode conductors.
- Corrected an improperly tapped GE subpanel by providing a dedicated 100A two-pole breaker in the new exterior equipment for a safe, code-compliant subpanel feed.
- Provisioned a future 60A EV circuit from the exterior subpanel for convenient charging capacity when the homeowner is ready.
- Installed a new 200A indoor main panel (aluminum bus), grounded and bonded the cabinet, reconnected the service entrance conductors, organized and labeled existing branch circuits, and brought the installation up to current electrical code.
- Upgraded and standardized overcurrent protection with appropriately sized breakers, including:
- 1× 100A two‑pole (subpanel feed)
- 1× 50A standard
- 3× 60A standard
- 2× 30A double‑pole
- 7× 20A standard
- 1× 20A GFCI
- 7× 15A standard
This comprehensive replacement improves safety, expands capacity to 200A, and creates clear pathways for future upgrades such as EV charging.
Safety and code considerations
Federal Pacific panels and disconnects are widely replaced due to reliability and safety concerns. By removing this equipment and installing modern service gear, the home’s electrical system now benefits from reliable overcurrent protection, improved grounding, and properly isolated subpanel feeders.
With inspectors increasingly enforcing NEC 2020, some homes require updates such as AFCI protection on specific circuits. In older wiring systems, adding AFCI can reveal preexisting issues (for example, shared neutrals) that may need diagnosis and correction. Our team accounts for these scenarios during permitting and inspection to keep your project compliant and safe.
Results for the homeowner
The Pickens home now has a cleanly organized 200A service, clearly labeled circuits, corrected subpanel wiring, and a planned path for a future 60A EV charger. The upgrade enhances everyday reliability while reducing nuisance trips and providing headroom for new appliances or additions.
