Pool Electrical Setup Completed in Weddington
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating out of our Matthews branch, completed a specialty pool electrical project in Weddington for Ivy Creek Pools on 09/02/2026. Lead technician Chris Rogers installed a new pool control panel, added GFCI protection where required, and hooked up multiple pieces of pool equipment and lighting to deliver a safe, reliable system ready for seasons of use.
This project focused on precise, code-compliant connections for a variety of pool components, with clean routing, labeling, and protection for both line-voltage and low-voltage circuits around water.
What We Installed and Configured
- Pool Control Panel (customer supplied): Mounted on a wood backboard and integrated with the home’s electrical system. Our scope included the code-required receptacle at the equipment area, a dedicated breaker at the main panel, and coordination of electrical permit/inspections.
- Equipment hookups (4 total): Power and control connections from the control panel to the pump, gas heater, air blower, and a transformer for lights, following manufacturer diagrams and low-voltage relay requirements.
- Pool lights (4): Wired through the transformer with attention to proper grounding, bonding interfaces, and separation of low-voltage from line-voltage conductors where applicable.
- GFCI and standard breakers:
- 20A GFCI Double-Pole
- 15A GFCI Double-Pole (including one dedicated to the blower circuit)
- 15A GFCI Single-Pole
- 20A Standard Single-Pole
- 15A Standard Single-Pole
- Weather-resistant GFCI receptacle: Installed with an in-use (bubble) cover to keep the outlet protected from rain and splashes.
- Outdoor junction box and conductors: Included a weather-rated junction box and approximately 30 feet of #8 THHN conductors to complete safe, durable terminations.
- Electrical assistance: Additional crew support ensured efficient setup, testing, and final tidy-up of the work area.
Safe, Code-Compliant Power Around Water
Pool environments demand elevated protection. Our team utilized GFCI double-pole breakers to safeguard 240V equipment and GFCI single-pole protection where required on 120V circuits. All connections were torqued to manufacturer specifications, properly bonded/grounded, and labeled for easy identification and future service.
We followed manufacturer wiring diagrams for each device, using low-voltage relays where applicable and keeping control, lighting, and line-voltage conductors organized and clearly separated. The end result is a neat, professional installation designed for long-term safety and performance.
Coordination, Trenching, and Feeder Planning
Ivy Creek Pools coordinated site preparation and will handle trenching and providing conduit for the future feeder run. Touchstone Electric will furnish a feeder estimate at the start of that phase to complete the permanent supply to the new pool control panel. This collaborative approach keeps timelines efficient while ensuring all electrical components meet local code requirements in Weddington.
