Level 2 EV Charging Station Installation in Raleigh, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh team completed a professional Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia on May 4, 2026. Led by technician Matthew Castello, this project delivered a fast, reliable charging solution with a dedicated 60-amp circuit, THHN wiring, and liquid-tight flexible conduit. Our team handled permitting from start to finish and applied the eligible Duke Energy rebate to help reduce overall project cost.

Project overview and scope of work

  • Performed a site evaluation and load check to identify the best route and panel capacity for a Level 2 EVSE.
  • Installed a dedicated 240V, 60-amp circuit specifically for the EV charging station.
  • Added a matching 60A breaker in the main electrical panel and clearly labeled the new circuit.
  • Pulled THHN #6 conductors to support the higher continuous load typical of Level 2 charging.
  • Routed conductors in 3/4-inch liquid-tight/flex conduit with raintight fittings for a durable, code-compliant finish.
  • Mounted and connected the customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger, then completed torqueing and verification to manufacturer specifications.
  • Performed a clean access path by removing a small section of plywood as needed for wire routing, followed by cleanup.
  • Tested the system for correct voltage and proper operation, confirming safe charging performance.

This installation follows current code requirements and best practices for continuous-load EV charging, offering greater reliability and faster charge times for daily driving in Raleigh.

Materials and methods used

  • Level 2 EVSE (customer-supplied) set to appropriate charging current per circuit rating.
  • 60A standard breaker installed to match the panel manufacturer.
  • THHN #6 copper conductors for the 60-amp circuit.
  • 3/4-inch liquid-tight flexible conduit with proper connectors, straps, and LBs where required.
  • Labeling, terminations, and workmanship exceeding typical residential standards for neatness and serviceability.
