Permitted EV Charger Installation in Chapel Hill
Touchstone Electric completed a Level 2 EV charger installation for Jeff Laufenberg in Chapel Hill. Our Raleigh team installed the customer-supplied charging equipment with the dedicated electrical infrastructure needed to support reliable home EV charging.
Technicians Zion Brownlee and Gustavo Peralta completed the work with an electrical permit filed for the project. A properly planned dedicated circuit helps provide the capacity and protection an EV charger needs while keeping the installation organized and code-conscious.
Dedicated 60-Amp Circuit for Level 2 Charging
This Chapel Hill EV charging project included a new 60-amp standard breaker and approximately 30 feet of #6 SEU wiring. The dedicated circuit was routed using PVC conduit, with roughly five feet of 3/4-inch conduit and applicable mounting hardware and connectors.
Level 2 chargers typically require more electrical capacity than a standard household outlet can provide. Installing a dedicated breaker and correctly sized wiring helps ensure the charger has a suitable electrical path from the panel to the charging location. Touchstone Electric also completed the appliance installation portion of the project for the customer-supplied EV charger.
- 60-amp dedicated breaker installation
- #6 SEU wiring for the EV charging circuit
- 3/4-inch PVC conduit installation
- Installation of the customer-supplied EV charger
- Electrical permit filing for the completed scope
Whole-Home Surge Protection Added at the Electrical Panel
In addition to the EV charger circuit, the project included installation of a whole-home surge protector at the main electrical panel. Whole-home surge protection is designed to divert excess voltage to ground before it can travel through the home’s electrical system.
Power fluctuations, electrical equipment cycling, and certain surge events can contribute to voltage spikes. Adding protection at the panel can help protect connected electrical components and hardwired appliances from routine surge exposure. The installed surge protector includes a manufacturer-backed coverage program for certain covered equipment, subject to its terms, exclusions, and existing insurance requirements.
