EV Charger Install & Whole-Home Surge Protection in Raleigh

Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh team completed a safe, code-compliant Level 2 EV charger installation and whole-home surge protection upgrade for a residence in Raleigh, NC. Led by technician Patrick Burke, this project was finished on September 27, 2024, and included permitting, a dedicated EV circuit, and panel-mounted surge protection for lasting reliability.

Project overview

Our customer, Carlos Santiago, wanted fast home charging and better protection for sensitive electronics. We installed a customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger on a new 240-volt circuit, provided GFCI protection at the panel, and added a whole-home surge protector to help guard appliances and electronics from voltage spikes.

What we installed

Level 2 EV charger circuit with a dedicated, 50A GFCI-protected breaker sized for the EVSE and wiring method, delivering safe, dependable charging performance.
New conductors using #8 THHN wire in neatly routed PVC conduit for a professional, durable installation.
Whole-home surge protector mounted at the main electrical panel to divert excess voltage to ground and help protect the home’s circuits, appliances, and electronics from lightning, grid fluctuations, and equipment cycling.
Electrical permit filed with the local authority to ensure inspections and full compliance with Raleigh and North Carolina electrical requirements.

All work was completed to current electrical code standards, with clear labeling and tidy workmanship at the panel and along the conduit path.
