Electrical Repairs, Dedicated Circuits & Lighting in Matthews, NC
Our Charlotte branch completed a comprehensive electrical repair and upgrade project for homeowner Sonal Patel in Matthews. Led by technician Will Cruz, this service visit on January 22, 2026 focused on safety-driven repairs, reliable power for new equipment, and thoughtful lighting and convenience upgrades throughout the home.
Project highlights
- Repaired a damaged home-run by removing the compromised conductor and installing a new dedicated circuit for dependable performance.
- Three dedicated circuits for mini-splits to prevent nuisance tripping and voltage drop—one to the workshop and two to the garage.
- Installed 3 A/C disconnects (≤60A pull-out) for code-compliant, safe servicing of outdoor HVAC equipment.
- Added wafer can lights in two bedrooms for modern, low-profile ceiling lighting and better room coverage.
- Relocated smoke detectors to homeowner-preferred locations while maintaining safety best practices.
- Installed a new outlet in the upstairs guest bedroom closet for convenient power access.
- Prewired whips for retractable screens to support future installation and smooth integration.
- Prewired speaker leads to multiple locations for a clean, ready-for-audio setup.
- Added a floor outlet in the upstairs loft to serve furniture layouts and reduce cord clutter.
Why dedicated circuits and disconnects matter
Dedicated circuits ensure high-demand devices like mini-split heat pumps, garage equipment, and workshop tools receive stable power without sharing with lighting or receptacles. This helps minimize breaker trips, protects sensitive electronics, and extends equipment life.
A/C disconnects provide a local, code-required means to isolate power at the unit. That’s crucial for safe maintenance, faster service calls, and clear labeling for anyone working around your HVAC equipment.
Lighting and low-voltage upgrades for comfort and convenience
The slim-profile wafer can lights we installed deliver bright, even illumination without bulky housings—perfect for tight ceiling cavities and a clean, modern look. Relocating smoke detectors and adding strategic outlets improve both safety and everyday usability.
For future enhancements, our team prewired speaker locations and made whips for retractable screens, keeping wiring concealed and ready so that finishing touches install faster and look polished.
Materials, panel work, and testing
- Installed new NM-B wiring (12/2 for 20A circuits and 14/2 for lighting and general loads) with secure routing and proper support.
- Added appropriately sized double-pole breakers to serve the new dedicated loads and clearly labeled the panel for easy identification.
- Verified polarity, grounding, and continuity; tested device operation; and confirmed clean terminations for long-term reliability.
As with all Touchstone Electric projects, we kept the workspace tidy and ensured the homeowner understood the new circuits and device locations before we wrapped up.
