Project overview in Fort Mill, SC
Touchstone Electric completed an electrical repairs and troubleshooting project for SunSouth Carolinas in Fort Mill, SC. Led by technician Mark Viktorovich and supported by our Charlotte team out of the Matthews branch, this job focused on safely delivering power from the main panel to a fireplace location, upgrading protection with GFCI breakers, and installing a new customer-supplied light fixture. The work was completed on September 18, 2025.
Our goal was a code-compliant, durable installation that protects people and property, minimizes future maintenance, and keeps expansion options open for additional loads or features down the road.
What we installed and why it matters
- 1-inch PVC conduit (approx. 60 ft) with the proper fittings, LBs, and supports to protect conductors and simplify future service or upgrades.
- Trenching (approx. 20 ft, 18–24 in. depth where required) to route the conduit safely and out of harm’s way, balancing accessibility with long-term protection.
- THHN conductors:
- 65 ft of #12 THHN for 20-amp circuits feeding higher-demand devices.
- 65 ft of #14 THHN for 15-amp lighting/general-purpose circuits.
- GFCI protection at the panel with one 15A GFCI breaker and one 20A GFCI breaker to enhance safety for receptacles and lighting where shock hazards are more likely.
- Customer-supplied fixture installation on an existing box/circuit, mounted and tested for reliable operation.
- Additional manpower for safe conduit pulls, trenching, and a neat, efficient finish.
Placing GFCI protection at the breaker helps ensure any downstream receptacles or lighting on these circuits benefit from fast, reliable ground-fault interruption—an important safeguard in areas where moisture can be present or where equipment is routinely plugged and unplugged.
How we approach safety and quality
- Clear routing and support: Conduit runs were laid out to avoid mechanical damage and allow clean, serviceable access points at the panel and fireplace location.
- Proper burial and backfill: Trenching at the correct depth helps protect the conduit from surface activity and weather cycles.
- Right wire for the load: We used #12 THHN for 20A and #14 THHN for 15A circuits to match capacity and reduce voltage drop over the run.
- Functional testing: After termination, our technician verified continuity, polarity, and breaker operation, and performed GFCI tests to confirm proper trip response.
- Labeling and documentation: Breakers and circuits were clearly identified to make future maintenance faster and safer.
Planning an outdoor dig or trench? Remember to call 811 before you dig so buried utilities can be located and marked for safety.
Results for this Fort Mill project
The new conduit pathway from the panel to the fireplace location provides a protected, expandable route for conductors, while the dedicated THHN wiring ensures the right performance for both 15A and 20A needs. With GFCI breakers installed, the circuits now feature enhanced shock protection that aligns with modern safety expectations. The customer’s fixture is installed cleanly and operating as intended.
Following completion, SunSouth Carolinas shared positive feedback in their review of our work.
